Today I am wearing a Vince Coat, Mixology Sweater, Seven Jeans and Stuart Weitzman Pumps..off to work!
New York is starting to heat up, which means your outfits should too. If your looking for a classy way to go topless, a shirtless blazer is one of my favorites. A suit jacket doesn't just have to be saved to wear on your next interview and it doesn't always have to be so serious. Fashion is meant to be fun.
The best way to do this is to keep it monochromatic. If your wearing a purple blazer, keep the pants purple too. The thing about suede is that it is much more than a fabric. The texture literally has the ability to take you back to a certain decade. When I think of suede, I instantly think of Halston in the 70's but also the 19th century. That's kind of one of the greatest strengths about fashion, a specific cut or a certain fabric can really bring you back in time. Dressing in suede is much easier than anything else because it is a super understated fabric. I couldn't pair a sequin jacket with sequin boots, or a denim jacket with denim boots and be effortless at the same time. I feel like its one of the only textures that can be worn in an outfit entirely. If there are two aspects in clothing that I am addicted to, it would be fringe and sequins. Seriously, I never pass by a sequin or fringe piece without talking myself out of why I don't need it. I usually don't like to spend much on trend based items but this jacket has been in my closet since 9th grade. Being a legitimate clothes hoarder has its pros and cons. I never get rid of ANYTHING because I know I will be looking for it 5 years later but on the other hand, I don't think I can actually fit another jacket in my small New York City closet. A few posts ago, I mentioned Betsy from Mindful Style. She got me hooked on a new brand called Everlane where they manufacture all of their own products. They have the best selection of inexpensive basics to create your entire wardrobe around.
It was nice to be back at Lincoln Center after my trip. The fomo was really starting to get to me lol. It's crazy that this was the last season Lincoln Center will be the house of fashion week. After this season, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is officially dropping the "Mercedes Benz" and will just be called New York Fashion Week with MB no longer as the sponsor. The week long event will moved to undisclosed location somewhere downtown.
Even though I only got to make 3 days of shows, what I saw was beautiful-espeically the Michael Costello show. After Beyonce put him on the map when she wore his work to the 2014 Grammys, Costello has since then become a house hold name. He genuinely understands what a female wants to feel like through the power of her clothes and is just a master at creating the perfect silhouette. When I used to work at RZ, I spotted this coat and fell in love. I've never seen a shearling collar so dramatic. I decided to pair it with bell bottoms because it felt the most me. 95% of the runways this season took an ode to the 60s & 70s and I couldn't be more happier. There is nothing I love more then Halston, Bill Blass and Bianca Jagger used as muses to modernize todays fashion. I am spending my Valentines day in California with my family. Its kind of the worst timing ever with fashion week going on in New York, but I will be home in time for the last 3 days of shows. The weather is so gorgeous here, so I can't 100% complain about not being in NYC. Today we had the opportunity to tour Google HQ and it was cooler than I imagined. Hope everyones has a great Valentines day with their lovers and friends.
Keep an eye out for my fashion week looks at the end of this week. An all white combo is one of my favorite ways to dress, especially in the Winter. For me, the best way to wear white in the winter is to keep all of your accessories dark and in the same color scheme. I was so excited to shoot these McQueen booties that I bought on sale for my birthday this past October. I've always believed it is best to splurge on jackets and shoes because they are the two most important elements to any outfit. You can be wearing a white tee and blue jeans, but if you have the right shoe with a cool jacket, your outfit will instantly say something different than the person standing next to you. Mindful Style: As I get older, I realize that my shopping habits have changed tremendously. I used to be so trend driven and shop on impulse. Every other day I would go out and purchase a new shirt from H&M because it was fast, inexpensive and looked exactly like something I saw on Stella McCartney's latest runway. Naturally, it got to a point where my closet would over flow and when it got time to spring cleaning, I would dispose of half my fast fashion purchases. After a meeting with Betsy from Mindful Style, I learned that 3.8 billion pounds of textiles are thrown away each year. From being a fashion editor at GLAMOUR, to now working as a sustainable style advisor where she influences her clients in making conscious clothing choices, our conversation reminded me about the importance of quality over quantity. Her mindset on shopping and closet curating is needed more throughout the industry. Learn more about what Betsy does at www.MindfulStyle.com Racked.com
